Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University (KCAD) in Grand Rapids, MI prepares artists and designers to have impact through practice. Responsibilities for a KCAD adjunct faculty member include syllabus and class preparation, instruction during scheduled course time, providing reasonable availability to students for consultation and assistance with respect to assigned course(s), evaluation of student performance, submission of final grades on the FSU Banner system, and archiving of both course material and student work as requested by the program chair and/or the Dean of the College.
The Interior Design Program seeks to cultivate interior designers who are engaged in innovative and creative human-centered solutions that contribute to the advancement of the profession. We are looking for a designer that can help us teach the next generation about the design process and to share the skills of the profession in the classroom.
The teaching assignment is based upon skill, demonstrated competency, and depth of understanding in areas such as the design process, hand rendering, construction documentation, industry software programs, building codes, and various project typologies.
Master's degree in a related field to content being taught or: Master's degree in unrelated field and additional minimum of 15 graduate credits in a field related to the content being taught or: A combination of:
A minimum of six years, working in the field of industry of the content area being taught;
Evidence of recognized accomplishment in area being taught, including awards, bibliography of publication referencing design or art work or scholarship;
Evidence of scholarly/creative accomplishment in terms of completed design work, patents, exhibitions, presentations, publication, and juried recognition at the regional, national and international level.
Evidence of service to the field in terms of memberships on committees or boards of professional organizations and other contributions to the field.
Required Work Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in the design of residential, corporate, healthcare, retail, or hospitality design industries.
Experience with instruction, training, and/or team leadership. Knowledge and expertise in industry specific software. i.e. AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp Pro, CET Designer, etc. Strong hand drawing and/or hand rendering skills. Expertise in standard architectural drawing conventions. Knowledge of codes in the built environment. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite 6 or higher. IIDA, ASID, AIA, or IDEC membership. NCIDQ or NCARB certification.
Proposed Salary: Starting at $3,950 per 3 credit course.
