Leading Edge Advanced Fibers (LEAF), in conjunction with its parent company, Directed Vapor Technologies International (DVTI), seeks to fill a Textile Engineer position in the Charlottesville, Virginia area. This position reports to the Vice President – Research & Development and provides engineering and design expertise related to fiber handling and other processes utilized in the continuous coating of a variety of fibers for a range of applications. Some travel between sites in nearby Arvonia, Virginia and Charlottesville, Virginia is anticipated.
Assist with and inform management on day-to-day production activities:
Provide engineering and design expertise to support roll-to-roll manufacture of composite textile materials for a range of applications. Approaches should be applicable to high throughput production and continuous, consistent manufacturing.
Furnish engineering and design expertise and carry out projects related to manufacturing process improvements including: detailed feedback on current procedures/tooling systems, detailed process/part documentation, general plant organization etc.
Assist with design and implementation of new tooling and processes.
Design and carry out project management.
Maintain accurate production data and manage workflow of product through the plant.
Identify applications areas suitable for new product development.
Assist with forecasting and management of production needs.
Qualifications and Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or a physical sciences field required.
At least five years of relevant experience or a graduate degree plus two years of relevant experience required. Experience in a manufacturing environment related to fiber processing a plus.
In addition to fiber experience, strong experience in mechanical engineering is desired.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Strong analytical, project management, and organizational skills.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects of varying complexity simultaneously with attention to detail and a high level of excellence and professionalism.
Excellent problem-solving skills. Willingness to handle both complex engineering and hands-on production matters. Ability to combine strategic thinking with operational follow-through.
Full proficiency with standard office software (e.g., Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
Experience with ISO 9001 or similar quality management programs.
Experience with Lean Six Sigma, Kanban, or other manufacturing organizational methods is a plus.
Experience with Solidworks/CAD and Labview/Visual Basic is highly desirable.
Pay rate is negotiable based on experience and education. Employees are eligible for paid leave following the new hire period.
