The Department of Fiber Science & Apparel Design is one of five academic units in the College of Human Ecology at Cornell University. The graduate field of textiles offers an M.A. and a Ph.D. in Apparel Design, as well as an M.S. and Ph.D. in Fiber Science. The undergraduate programs include Fashion Design, Fashion Design Management, and Fiber Science.
The Lecturer will serve as Instructor of Record for FSAD 2640, FashionDraping, for the spring 2020 semester. Class size will be up to 20 students. The position is 0.20 FTE (part-time) with an appointment period of January 1 through May 15, 2020.
FSAD 2640, Fashion Draping is a 3-credit, studio course, providing instruction in the principles and processes of draping, advanced flat-pattern making, and industrial construction methods using a variety of materials. Assigned problems require students to make judgments regarding the design process, the nature of materials, body structure, function, and fashion.
Advanced degree (M.A. or M.S. or higher) preferred.
At least 3 years fashion industry design, draping and patternmaking experience required.
Demonstrated working knowledge of creating patterns, draping, and garment construction.
Prior teaching experience in fashion design preferred
Working knowledge of active learning methods to develop student problem-solving and critical thinking skills in fashion design.
Demonstrated communication and team-building skills appropriate for working with students.
