Pay Range: $50,895 annually or more depending on education and experience

Position Summary: The Technical Design Studio Director is a full time twelve month position reporting to the Dean of the College of Art and Architecture. Responsibilities include: managing, maintaining and operating the college technical shop; managing the budget for the shop; assisting teaching faculty in delivery of courses; assisting and instructing students, faculty and staff in shop usage; training and supervising IH and work-study shop assistants; ensuring that the shop is a safe and welcome facility for users; assisting in maintenance and enhancement of college facilities and equipment.

- Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience required. - Experience working in a university or other educational shop setting. - Experience in training, supervising and evaluating employees. - Wood shop experience. - Experience working with CAD, CAM and 3D design software. - Experience working with and maintaining Digital Fabrication Tools including Laser Cutters and 3D Printers.
- Willingness to obtain First Aid and CPR training. - Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and manage project and operational budgets. - Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and enforce safety policies and practices in an academic shop/lab/workplace setting. - Demonstrated experience working with others to conceive, design and complete projects. - Demonstrated ability to help students conceptualize, design, plan, and construct design projects including furniture designs. - Five or more years experience in training, supervising and evaluating employees. - Five or more years wood shop experience. - Advanced knowledge and skills related to the use of power, hand and digital fabrication tools. - Advanced knowledge of a wide variety of specialized shop and laboratory equipment. - Solid leadership skills associated with planning work assignments, establishing priorities, and ensuring completion of multiple projects. - Strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty and staff. - Strong interpersonal communication skills to effectively supervise all levels of staff, faculty and students at all levels of ability.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions: - Must be able to bend, stoop and lift items weighing up to 50 pounds. - Must to able to spend extended periods standing and working on hard surfaces. - Must be able to work in a shop setting around loud potentially hazardous machinery.
