Experience which demonstrates knowledge of space planning, programming, design, and project administration.Â Demonstrated institutional facilities analysis and planning experience with a preference for Higher Education. The Facilities Planning & Management Department at Iowa State University is seeking candidates for an Assistant Director of Space Planning & Management. This position develops data analytics, plans and recommendations for university leaders on space requirements, programming and alternatives for the physical campus environment to support facility planning and capital improvements.
In collaboration with the Director, this position is responsible for the identification, negotiation, resolution and implementation of facility planning efforts to meet the universityâs mission and strategic plans.Â These space planning efforts are integrated with the Campus Master Plan, Strategic Facilities Plan, plans of the Administration, members of the university community and Facilities Planning and Management organization.Â This position is involved in pre-planning efforts which include forecasting needs, evaluating current conditions and anticipating changes in the universityâs facility needs.Â This position provides leadership for the development of the Capital Planning and the 5 Year Capital Plan.Â This position is also involved in the definition and development of building feasibility studies and building programs.Â These efforts include defining the goals of the study, assessing program needs, coordinating with the client group, evaluating alternative solutions and recommending to the university administration project scope, budget and schedule.Â This position also provides continuity as the project moves from the preplanning phase to building programming to schematic design.Â The position provides leadership and supervision to two Space Planners, and the Space Information Coordinator.Â This position works in collaboration with campus planning and instructional facilities staff to coordinate project activities and requirements. The position supports the Director of Planning Services on a variety of committees and diverse planning efforts.
The successful candidate must have leadership skills and the ability to communicate and work effectively with a variety of individuals.Â Must have tact and good listening skills, along with the ability to articulate the needs of the university to project team members.Â Must have strong organizational skills, including the ability to organize and coordinate multiple projects at once.
