Bachelor's degree and 3 years of related experience.
Commercial interior design experience including systems furniture specification. Experience using computer aided drafting software such as AutoCAD or Revit. Experience using 2020Â CAPÂ furniture specification software. Experience working with staff, faculty, and students on higher education and/or governmental projects. Experience designing classrooms, office spaces, and large room remodels.
The Interior Designer III position serves under the direction and supervision of the Director of Facilities Design and Construction in the Facilities Planning and Management (FP&M) department.
Responsibilities of this position include providing professional interior design and project management services for small to medium sized projects, up to $250,000, to the University community for in-house design projects. In addition, this position is responsible for interior design services on medium to large-size capital projection in coordination with external design consultants. Â This position is expected to work on 20-30 projects simultaneously. Projects assigned are single office and office suite redesigns, classroom renovations, and laboratory remodels. This position advises and consults, prepares project cost estimates, prepares drawings and specifications to communicate and provide instruction, and acts as the primary contact for the projects assigned. Â Position also provides general project support during all phases of design and construction. This position is expected to handle tasks with minimal supervision, with more autonomy and a greater degree of ingenuity. The ability to document projects and communicate design detail to peers, clients, and trade craft personnel is vital. Knowledge of detailing, sequence of construction, furniture installation methods, and budgeting is required.
In addition to the responsibilities listed above, the position coordinates the work of other interior design staff and student employees for assigned new construction and remodeling projects.Â Assists in developing, updating, documenting and enforcing university interior design standards. Assists in developing, updating and supporting FP&M Strategic planning initiatives and the Universityâs mission.
This position requires the ability to communicate and work with university clients, professional consultants and contractors. Must have tact and good negotiation skills to maintain positive client and workplace relations. Must have strong organizational and analytical skills, including the ability to organize and coordinate work within projects.
Professional Certification by the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) is required.
