This position is essential to the day to day operations of the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences. The position is critical to providing service to the department chair and faculty with funded projects. This position provides support such as answering the phones, filing, data entry, monitoring of budgets, assisting with hiring and payroll documents, purchasing, and other functions critical to the success of the department. Prepare, manage, and coordinate calendar, meeting schedules, travel plans, and briefing documents to facilitate productivity, efficiency, and timeliness. Answer calls and maintain the faculty members’ calendars using discretion to determine priority status, triage requests, accept and decline invitations, schedule/reschedule meetings as needed and refer as appropriate. Selects meeting locations and coordinates logistics (catering, AV, parking). Conducts contingency planning, arranges agendas, prepares meeting materials, etc. Greets guests, assists faculty members in staying on schedule. Prepares requested documents in Word, PowerPoint, Publisher and Excel. Tracks and follows up to meetings. Develops and implements protocols for managing record keeping, time keeping, billing, collections, and other accounting related to department matters. Will have office management role overseeing students (including approving time worked and interpreting and communicating faculty member's policies), and will exercise discretion in hiring students.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit:
The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences is one of four academic departments within the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. The department offers Bachelor of Science degrees in three program areas with the following distinct specialty emphases: child development and family relations, child development early education and family studies (birth to kindergarten licensure), consumer sciences, fashion merchandising and design, food and nutritional sciences (dietetics), food and nutritional sciences (food science), and food and nutritional sciences (pre-med in nutrition). The department offers a Master of Science degree in food and nutritional sciences. Additionally, the department offers the Master of Arts in Teaching in family and consumer sciences education and child development and family studies (BK). Faculty members are actively engaged in research that contributes to the body of knowledge in the areas of nutrition, food science, housing, apparel, textiles and child and family issues.

High School Diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
A bachelor’s degree and at least two years of office experience in a higher education environment; or associate’s degree in administration and five years of related office experience.
Experience with Banner Student and Banner Finance or similar information systems; possess strong skills in Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
Excellent communication skills, analytical and organizational skills and the proven ability to interact with a variety of people in an effective and diplomatic manner.
Ability to work independently, as well as, function successfully as part of a team.
