Description: The Design Team Intern is a member of the Design Team responsible for supporting the Gables Design Department Team. This will require working with the Design Team Managers to coordinate FFE selections, procurement and installations, as well as develop relationships with manufacturers, product representatives and related services.
Reports To: Design Manager
Compensation: $15-20/hr based on experience.
Bachelor s or Master s Degree in Interior Design, currently pursuing a degree in Interior Design, or a related field.
Minimum 1 year of design school or 1 year experience working for a multi-family developer, hospitality firm, or related office. Ability to read plans, basic understanding of project schedules and finishes for multi-family or hospitality projects as well as awareness of submittals review and furniture specification processes. Computer proficiency required Adobe Photoshop, Powerpoint, Microsoft Windows, including Word and Excel. AutoCAD a plus.
SKILLS / JOB FUNCTIONS:
This is a part-time position, requiring 20-24 hours per week for 3-4 months, beginning January 2020. The position may require ability to travel during installation;
The position requires excellent communication skills, organizational and time management skills;
Ability to read and understand architectural or technical drawings;
Ability to develop design tracking documents, including finish schedules, standards, specifications and details;
Ability to communicate with outside consultants including interior designers, procurement agents, design vendors, etc.;
Strong ability to communicate graphically;
Ability to multi-task and manage multiple deadlines
Strong writing and communication skills
Assist design staff in researching materials & preparing presentations
Communicating with & visiting showrooms to source & return samples
Working knowledge of the application of color, materials and aesthetic form
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Track and coordinate FF+E packages for apartment units;
Maintain samples library;
Assist scheduling and record keeping for Design Department;
Other projects as assigned.
Valid driver s license and access to a vehicle is preferred
Enclose samples of design work/portfolio
