Marlatex seeks a creative and motivated addition to our Design Team in Belmont, North Carolina with 3-5 years experience in upholstery fabric design and development. The position requires equal parts textile design and project management. We are looking for an individual that will help envision and create the future of Marlatex while integrating themselves into the established work-flow of fabric design and development at the mill.
The Design Associate / Textile Designer is responsible for supporting the Design Team and working with cross-functional partners to assist in ALL aspects of Product Design and Development.
Assisting the Design Director and COO in design, yarn sourcing, and marketing responsibilities.
Creating original artwork and patterns in graphic repeat for smooth seamless design. Design for jacquards and dobby looms.
Creating technical files and weaves using textile design software such as Weavemaker Pro, Arah Weave and NED Graphics.
Preparing color ways and color trials with existing yarn banks.
Developing new yarn colors following the seasonal Trends and Forecasts
Working closely with furniture manufacturing clients to develop special/custom textiles.
Assisting clients with spec sheet requests and fabric testing.
Executing Showroom Displays and Seasonal Trend Directions.
Coordinating with Mill Supervisor for quality assurance.
Handling operational, technical and color control challenges.
Source new yarns, develop trending colors and innovative finishing processes.
Data entry for seasonal new textile developments.
Prepare technical packs and organize the design sample library.
Graduate from a technical weaving and design program with a focus on upholstery fabric.
Sketching and creative skills.
Experience with woven CAD design.
Knowledge of yarn numbering systems.
Knowledge of dyeing and finishing processes.
Strong communication skills.
Proficient in Adobe Illustrator / Photoshop, Excel and Outlook, and Google online data systems.
Detail oriented and able to manage deadlines.
Excellent problem solving skills.
Must have ability to be flexible, multi-task and shift priorities.
Good work ethic, lots of energy and great attitude.
