Essential Job Duties:

The Sponsored Projects Development Specialist position will collaborate with and assist faculty and staff in the Wilson College of Textiles, with extramural proposal development for government and industry funding and also support the day-to-day operations of the Wilson College Research Office by:

• Developing and maintaining database of faculty and staff expertise in the Wilson College of Textiles.
• Actively searching for and identifying potential funding opportunities.
• Providing assistance and feedback with proposal development, budget and narrative development, budget narrative editing and formatting.
• Assisting Faculty with non-technical portions of proposals {e.g., diversity, K-12 outreach, management, broader impacts, international program logistics, assessment, technology transfer and/or economic development}.
• Collecting and formatting of bio-sketches/curriculum vitae, current and pending & support forms, conflict-of-interest lists and other form required for proposal submission.
• Establishing general boiler plate information to be used in proposal applications/submissions.
• Reviewing Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOA) and Requests for Proposals (RFP) to ensure compliance with the sponsor guidelines.
• Reviewing budgets and mathematically applying proper rules to incorporate the correct fringe benefit rates, facilitates and administrative costs (F&A), and tuition rates, etc. ensuring compliance with University and agency guidelines.
• Reviewing budget justifications ensuring compliance with University and agency guidelines.
• Communicating effectively with faculty and support staff regarding any recommended or necessary changes to proposals.
• Monitoring and facilitating the Project Information and Navigation System (PINS) process ensuring fields are correctly completed and necessary information is loaded into the record.
• Preparing proposals for final review/approval by the College Research Office Director and for final submission to sponsors. This includes ensuring applications are ready for the College Director to approve/sign/electronically submit via the required submission method (Grants.Gov, NSF FASTLANE/research.gov, etc.).

This is a time-limited position with an expected duration of 1-3 years, depending on funding availability.

Other Work/Responsibilities:

• Organizing pre-award documents via electronic filing system.
• Assisting the Associate Dean of Research and the College Director of Research Administration with special projects, including but not limited to sponsored projects training/learning sessions.
• Liaising and collaborating with the Proposal Development Unit (PDU) on multi-disciplinary proposals involving Wilson College Faculty.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Experience/Education:

Bachelor’s degree; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Required Qualifications:

• Must be able to write clearly and informatively; present numerical data effectively; be able to read and interpret written information.
• Must be highly proficient in Microsoft including Excel, Word and in Adobe (or comparable softwares).
• Must be able to work productively with faculty and a diverse set of individuals.
• Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness.
• Ability to ensure that budget details are in accordance with Federal, State, University, and agency policies, procedures, and regulations.
• Must be able to work independently on multiple proposals concurrently.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Proposal processing experience is strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with NC State’s online systems (PINS, RADAR, etc.).
• Familiarity with Grants.gov and FASTLANE/Research.gov.
• Familiarity with A-21, Uniform Guidance, Cost Accounting Standards, Federal, State, and Industry research policies and procedures.
