As an intern within Nike’s Innovation Footwear Material Team (NXT FM), you will focus on yarn and textile solutions for Flyknit and other performance based knit and woven products being designed and developed for performance footwear. You will be asked to provide technical expertise and project support, including material testing, for ongoing yarn and textile innovation projects.
You will work closely with a broad range of Nike NXT teams to generate, develop, and validate solutions for complex problems, at the yarn level, that relate to Athlete* performance. You will be responsible for determining how yarn properties translate into performance benefits in the final shoe through laboratory testing and collaborations with various Nike innovation teams.
As an intern in the Footwear Material Team you will collaborate to establish test methods for yarns and materials projects that fall outside the normal realm of industry standard procedure by using internal and external testing resources when appropriate. You will be asked to review and present your work to Nike footwear innovators, developers, designers, and other Nike team members.
Emphasis is placed on being a creative innovator and delivering unique solutions to the Nike NXT team. Your ability to work with a broad range of functions, personalities, and technologies is a key aspect of this intern position.
Pursuing a Master’s degree in Textiles, Polymer Science, Engineering, or related field
3.0 GPA or higher
Graduation date of Winter 2021 or Spring 2022
A basic understanding of fiber extrusion techniques and subsequent post-production processes including texturizing, knitting, weaving, dying, and finishing chemistry.
Knowledge of industrial test methods and standards
Knowledge of yarn properties and their effect on resulting textile structures.
Ability to communicate effectively and work under tight timelines and with limited information
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to effectively communicate complex topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience
Ability to work with some level of ambiguity at times. Be flexible, with ability to take unclear goals and targets forward by formulating a plan which brings clarity and focus in order to achieve deliverables
Strong ability for cross team collaboration
