The FabLab Librarian provides instruction and experiential learning opportunities centered on design thinking, digital fabrication, and the application of creative technologies in both formal and informal settings to positively impact the academic and professional success of UTA students, faculty, staff, and the broader community. This position will foster a collaborative environment of innovation and discovery, ensuring extraordinary learner experiences through the incorporation of best practices in service and scholarship.
Collaborates with stakeholders and partners from across the libraries and campus to develop experiential learning curricula and programming (both formal and informal) that positively impacts the academic and professional success and retention of current and future students through ideation, experimentation, and creation. This includes providing instruction related to Maker Literacies and other learning opportunities within the distributed global maker community. Fosters the leadership and professional development of FabLab student employees and cultivates the continual acquisition of technical proficiencies in students with diverse backgrounds and skillsets. Develops pedagogical approaches that utilize student employees to increase the capacity for and effectiveness of teaching, programming, and FabLab services. Develops and maintains a working, interactive, and dynamic relationship with faculty, students, and staff in assigned disciplines and programs. Engages in ongoing professional development initiatives to maintain and enhance skills. Engages in cross-departmental strategic, communication and functional task forces within University Libraries. Develops and maintains online teaching materials and guides, participates in digital learning initiatives, and extends services through office hours. Performs other duties as assigned.
Master's degree from an accredited institution in a related discipline. Knowledge of the application of technology to the design and delivery of research services and instruction. Demonstrated organizational, analytical, decision-making, problem-solving and planning skills. Computer literate and technologically adept. Proficiency in MS Office Suite, specifically Outlook, Word, and Excel. Proficiency in Windows Operating System and file management.
Master's degree in a STEAM field. Three (3) years of related experience with two (2) years of supervisory experience. Two (2) years of experience managing and/or working in a makerspace or digital fabrication lab. Experience with three (3) or more of the following fabrication technologies: 3D Printing, 3D Scanning, Laser Cutting, CNC Routing, Plasma Cutting, Electronics, Textiles, Machine Shop Equipment. Experience working with CAD to CAM technologies. Previous teaching experience, demonstrating the use of multiple teaching methodologies and knowledge of research related to pedagogy and learning. Experience with current and emerging technologies and their applications in academic libraries and how these apply across disciplines. Creativity and experience designing instructional/informational materials, both in print and online. Experience with outreach and marketing services to students and faculty.
