Princeton Day School is seeking a dynamic and experienced Sabbatical Leave Replacement to teach woodworking, sculpture and furniture design January – June 2023.
Working in a sizable, airy and well-equipped shop, this person will teach woodworking and furniture design to fourth graders, Middle School and Upper School students. The successful candidate will show flexibility and creativity and be able to work collaboratively while making cross-curricular connections with different disciplines, grade levels and divisions.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Teach 4th grade woodworking, 8th Grade woodworking and Upper School Intro and Advanced Furniture Design
- Demonstrate, facilitate and mentor students in practical and artistic woodworking skills
- Actively engage students in curriculum through varied and differentiated instruction
- Present various experiences and approaches to art in a wide range of media and foundational skills
- Incorporate technology, digital art and new media into studio and lessons
- Commitment to collaborative and innovative teaching styles
- Communicate and uphold the strictest safety standards
- Display flexibility, resilience and a sense of humor
- Serve as an Advisor in the Upper School

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art or Education, MFA preferred, along with demonstrated proficiency in woodworking, sculpture and design
- Full knowledge of milling and joinery as well as a deep understanding of hand and power tools
- Successful teaching experience
- Evidence of continued work as an active studio artist, and a commitment to growth, both as an artist and as an educator
- Ability to manage all aspects of a Woodworking studio, including equipment, materials, equipment and budget
- Experience and evidence of technological integration
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting
- Experience with differentiated instruction
- Effective communication skills
- Creative and resourceful, with a strong work ethic
