Job Description:
Are you an experienced, hands-on professional who wants to help students create, make, and innovate? The Student Innovation Center is seeking two Shop Supervisors who will provide supervision, coordination, customer service, and equipment management of the Center for one of the following areas:
Lower-Level Makerspaces and assembly facilities in metal working, composites fabrication, dynamometer testing, and lunar testing, primarily supporting student organizations and clubs. These makerspaces include equipment such as a dynamometer, composites freezer and oven, CNC lathes, CNC mills, drill presses, band saws, welders, grinders, presses, etc.
First Floor Makerspaces and assembly facilities in metal working, wood working, paint and finishing. These makerspaces include equipment such as a paint booth, dust collection system, jointers, planers, band saws, table saws, sanders, drill presses, cutters, grinders, welders, lathes, CNC lathes, CNC mills, etc.
Second Floor Makerspaces and assembly facilities in electronics, textiles, and 3D printing. These makerspaces include equipment such as soldering stations, power supplies, function generators, oscilloscopes, 3D printers, laser cutters, stitching machines, embroidery machines, looms, CNC knitting machines, etc.
The Shop Supervisor will have the opportunity to create engaging, welcoming workspaces and ensure safe, hands-on experiences. The person in this role will coordinate and supervise makerspace operations, resources, and services, including training students and maintaining records; scheduling supplies, services, and equipment; operating, maintaining, repairing, and servicing equipment and tools; creating and implementing operational and safety procedures and standards; developing and delivering hands-on trainings and experiences; providing customer service; and supervising makerspace users and student employees.
The successful candidate is a self-starter who exercises tact and diplomacy, has a strong focus on safety, has demonstrated skills in building and maintaining relationships, exhibits attention to detail, and has excellent leadership, supervisory, and communication skills. The successful candidate also has the knowledge, skills, and abilities to operate and become a subject matter expert on all equipment in the makerspaces. All staff members are expected to interact professionally and maintain the highest standards of integrity and ethics.
Additional information:Â This position works four 10-hour days. The work schedule for this position is Wednesday through Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with 30-minute breaks at noon and 5:30 p.m.
