Detailed Job Description Under the supervision of the SHED Makerspace Director, the SHED Makerspace Lab Manager's primary responsibilities include:
Managing the day to day operations of the SHED Makerspace.
Supervises +30 student staff to maintain a safe makerspace environment, support classes within the SHED Makerspaces.
Lead student training with support from the director and technician in the use of shop equipment.
Develop and deploy instructional modules and workshops in support of fabrication intensive programs and student groups.
Establish policies and procedures regarding safety and training within the various makerspaces.
Assists in developing curricular and co-curricular student making programs and executes makerspace sponsored events.
Department/College Description
Minimum Qualifications 3 years of fabrication, makerspace, studio, or similar experience that includes operation, maintenance, and/or repair of equipment, machinery, hand tools and related software, and/or digital fabrication technology.
Skills: This candidate would have strong organizational skills, time management and be highly self-motivated. Experience in product development and an understanding of maker tools and processes. The ability to promote programs, solve problems and interact with diverse individuals at all levels.
In addition to skills listed above, this candidate would have
Mechanical aptitude for operation; maintenance and repair of shop machinery and equipment.
Knowledge of safety regulation and procedures in the use and operation of shop equipment and tools.
Experience with the following maker technologies and processes
Metal Fabrication
Woodworking
Additive Manufacturing
Electronics and IOT/Microcontrollers
Finishing and Painting
Textiles
Programming
Experience interacting with outside vendors.
Strong organizational skill and problem-solving skills.
Strong verbal and written communication.
Expertise and the ability to teach the use of equipment, machinery and related technology.
Expertise in digital fabrication processes and the associated software.
Experienced with the functional requirements of the academic environment.
