Description of Work:
The Collections Assistant assists in a variety of specialized technical and administrative functions related to the Collections Department and management of the International Quilt Museum's (IQM) permanent collection, loans, and temporary exhibitions. Assists in record keeping, establishes and maintains files, and prepares loan folders for in-house review, loan agreement forms, receipts, and releases. Following established IQM procedures and practices, the Collections Assistant performs assigned routine collections management functions in assistance to the Collections Manager.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in art, art history, textiles, museum studies, arts administration or closely related field plus two years of experience working with museum collections; equivalent education/experience considered. Knowledge of museum collection practices, registration methods, techniques, textile care, and conservation. Knowledge of management information systems. Database skills. Ability to maintain detailed, complex records pertaining to the management, movement, exhibition, storage, and disposition of art objects. Ability to work effectively on a wide variety of projects concurrently, with concern for the tasks assigned and the goals of the division. Ability to evaluate information, set priorities, and establish an appropriate course of action in order to accomplish specific goals. Ability to work well under pressure and with conflicting demands. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with colleagues, volunteers, and interns, and effectively represent the IQM to outside professionals, lenders, donors, and members of the quilt community.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in textiles or museum studies. Experience working with volunteers. Experience with public speaking or public tours. Experience with integrated pest management protocols. Experience lighting exhibitions. Knowledge and experience of historic and contemporary textiles. Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills. Fiber microscopy skills. Proficient with FileMaker Pro, Access, and Photoshop.
